In this article, published by the Michigan State Journal of International Law, law professor Henry H. Perritt, Jr. argues that digital rights management ("DRM")--a form of copy protection--impedes full development of a new marketplace for popular music enabled by the Internet and downloadable music files. He advocates full embrace of the potential of the new technologies without DRM and sketches the new business models that are emerging.
